Jennifer shares: My mom was diagnosed with early-onset dementia about 12 years ago, when she was in her mid 60’s. While it’s been a challenging time for her, with frustration setting in when she can’t understand why she’s in a nursing home and can’t be at home with my dad (who, by the way, spends part of every day with her, bringing her lunch or taking her out so she can have a change of scenery), so far, she’s kept that loving, happy, thoughtful spirit and, at times, shows signs of my mom from 20+ years ago. Some say dementia is such a cruel disease as it slowly takes away the person you once knew, while their physical body is still here. On the one hand, that’s true, but on the other, it’s a blessing to still have my mom here on Earth with us today, until the Lord decides to call her home. I cherish every moment that we get to spend together in the meantime. And I love my mom so much. Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!
