“I didn’t think I could support my family alone, so I always went back to him,” said Hannah, a mother of two daughters that needed freedom from her abusive husband. One night, Hannah was hospitalized and needed life-saving surgeries. With her husband arrested, she needed a place to go and start a new life- she came to The Dwelling Place. During her time, Hannah received safe housing and childcare for her daughters, and she attended domestic abuse support group, Bible studies, and life skills classes. She said, “For the first time, I didn’t have to think about him and where he was,” she said. “I didn’t have to think about anything, just me and my girls.” Today, Hannah has her own apartment and a career in the medical field. “I thank God because I know He helped me,” she said. “Just look at the fact that I can even laugh and be happy.”
The Dwelling Place offers safe, transitional housing and Christ-centered supportive services for women and children fleeing domestic abuse. Our two-year program provides a loving community and one-on-one case management to help women and children discover their new identity: created by God, worthy of love, and beautiful inside and out.
