Keisha’s story

Keisha experienced abuse and trauma in her relationships as a child. Years later, her long-time partner became more and more physically abusive too. As the years went on she admits, “I became very angry. I got out of the situation, but the memories and the anger didn’t go away.”

Keisha came to UGMTC when she found herself unable to pay rent with nowhere to go, and now she is experiencing a fresh start in the program. “God got me where I needed to be, to work on my life. Now, I’ve really faced my pain and anger, and I’m learning to forgive…. The mission helped me trust in God and see myself as a special person—and that’s all I really need!”

Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities (UGMTC) serves men, women, and children experiencing hunger, homelessness and addiction. Emergency services include food, safe shelter, clothing, basic needs, and vital care. Ongoing, wraparound support and programs offer free, on-site professional mental health services, faith formation, adult education, supportive services, job-skills training, early childhood education, substance use recovery, financial-skills training, and more.
